Scrubber for reticulated foam producer

Installation for Soft Polyurethane Foam Manufacturing

Scrubber HCNWe have installed a new polypropylene (PP) scrubber installation for a company that manufactures soft polyurethane foam and then processes it into, among other things, foam materials for sound insulation, (micro) filters and packaging materials. The raw product is manufactured in reticulation installations where hydrogen is ignited in a controlled manner. The cell structure breaks open resulting in a highly valuable product. The process releases dust and acid (flue) gases (including hydrogen cyanide). The goal of the scrubber is to reduce the following components to below the applicable emission standards: dust, VOC, HCN, NOx en CxHy.

How the Scrubber Reduces Emissions

The flue gases are first adiabatically cooled to wet bulb temperature in a quench pipe piece. In this way, a relatively low and constant temperature is maintained, which ensures optimum operation of the scrubber. The scrubber is a vertical constructed column with an integrated liquid buffer on which the necessary instrumentation is connected.

Operating the Scrubber with Closed Loop Circulation

The scrubber operates with an open-spray system with a closed loop circulation pump. The pump feeds fine spraying nozzles at a constant flow rate and under a constant pressure in order to obtain an optimum spray pattern in the scrubber. As a result, the polluting particles cannot pass without being cleaned.

Conditioning the Washing Liquid with Caustic Soda and Sodium Hypochlorite

Washing liquid is conditioned with caustic soda (NaOH) and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) based on the continuously monitored pH, free chlorine and conductivity values. The liquid level of the washing medium is monitored by means of a radar level measurement.

Automation with a Siemens S7-1500 PLC

The installation is fully equipped with a Siemens S7-1500 PLC for seamless automation and enhanced efficiency. With this advanced technology in place, the system operates with optimal precision and control, ensuring reliable performance and easy maintenance.
