PLC Control Systems for Industrial Scrubber Installations
The implementation of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems in industrial scrubbers enables precise automation, monitoring, and optimization of separation processes. This study outlines the development, programming, and remote monitoring of a PLC-controlled scrubber system, emphasizing installation design, communication protocols, data management, and post-commissioning support.
1. Introduction
PLC systems play a critical role in industrial automation by providing robust, reliable control over complex processes. In scrubber installations, PLC control ensures stable operation, facilitates system diagnostics, and supports remote optimization. Effective programming and communication between the client and supplier are essential for successful deployment.
2. PLC Development and Programming Scope
Ravebo develops the PLC programming in accordance with a Functional Description, which is submitted for client approval following the initial order and payment. The development process allows for a single revision of the Functional Description. Finalization of the programming is contingent upon receipt of full payment. The installation operates as a stand-alone system, with its operational status displayed on the control cabinet for client access.
Communication among system components is primarily facilitated through Profinet, which is employed for internal device interactions wherever feasible. However, programming for Profinet-based data exchange is not included in the standard scope and must be coordinated during the ordering process if required. Any modifications to the programming post-delivery are executed remotely, contingent upon the client providing necessary network access.
3 .Remote Support and Commissioning
Scrubber installations are customized according to client-specific requirements, which may result in suboptimal separation efficiency immediately following commissioning. To address this, Ravebo conducts remote monitoring during the post-commissioning phase to fine-tune software parameters and provide ongoing support. A dedicated Fortinet module within the control cabinet facilitates secure remote access, which requires connection to the client’s network via Ethernet or reliable Wi-Fi. Ensuring proper connectivity is essential for effective remote support.
4. Data Storage and System Monitoring
Continuous monitoring of the scrubber system is supported by data storage on a dedicated device included with the installation. The device utilizes solid-state drives configured in a RAID arrangement to mitigate data loss in the event of hardware failure. Stored data serves both operational optimization and external support purposes, allowing remote analysis and adjustments to enhance scrubber performance.
5. Conclusion
The integration of PLC control, remote monitoring, and secure data storage in scrubber systems enables precise, adaptive management of industrial separation processes. By combining local control with remote support, the system ensures operational reliability, facilitates performance optimization, and supports long-term maintenance strategies. Effective communication and coordination between the client and supplier are crucial throughout the lifecycle of the installation.
